Map downloading statistics

It has been around six weeks since HAC 2 launched and we’re approaching 15,000 in-game map downloads served, so it seems like an arbitrary a good time to post some statistics on map downloading.

Top 10 downloaded maps:

  1. CMT Snow Grove
  2. Yoyorast Island
  3. Ambush
  4. Extinction
  5. RPG Beta 6.2
  6. Immure
  7. Yoyorast Island v2
  8. Coldsnap
  9. Hugeass
  10. [H3]Bloodgulch

As map downloading catches on for scrims and game nights hosted by various clans/groups, a number of the smaller/medium sized maps are quickly working their way up the ranks, especially with the more recent release of SAPP 5.6′s integrated map downloading for dedicated servers.

There’s still work to be done but so far it has been great to see the flurry of interest in playing and exploring the custom maps the game has to offer rather than having to stick to the handful of stock maps we’ve been playing ad nauseum for the past decade.

  1. Hi

I’m running opensauce alongwith HAC. they work together perfectly. THe problem occurs when a map is to be downloaded.

When we use HAC and opensauce together, HAC is the one which takes over the custom map downloads and I think opensauce map download feature gets disabled by default. After downloading the map with no problems, HAC extracts and installs the map, then while connecting to server again, halo crashes saying that “map can’t be found in /maps directory”.

i think opensauce gives this error, bcoz it’s the opensauce mapdownload feature which installs the maps directll into the Halo Custom Edition/maps/ folder, while HAC extracts the maps in My Documents/My Games/HAC/maps/ folder. So, since HAC extracts the newly downloaded map to this location, therefore opensauce can’t find the map in Halo CE maps folder and gives this error, in my opinion

Can you tell me the exact reason why I’m getting this error only when using HAC with opensauce? and what can be done to fix this. it seems that they can’t be used together right now, as HAC disable many of the OS features. So, are you planning to work on this?

My Operating System is Windows 7 Professional 32bit.

    Thanks.

    • Hopefully it’ll be sorted at some point but it’s OS that’s causing the crash at the moment.

The reason HAC doesn’t save maps in /maps is because it requires admin rights to do so. OS ignores this problem which causes the maps to get saved in a rather obscure place if the game isn’t run with admin rights, which happens to be most of the time.
